Highlander Heating – Meet Neil Riddoch
Neil Riddoch, a born and bred Scotsman and owner of Highlander Heating first started his career in central heating engineering when he was 5 years old! When out on call outs with his dad, a heating and plumbing technician, he developed a fascination for mechanics and began to reassemble the spare boiler parts available to him. This early fascination led to tertiary study in mechanical engineering (heating & plumbing), an advanced course which gave him the further skills and knowledge to start getting paid for his passion.
Neil then worked in the UK for 10 years, specialising in central heating diagnostics and repair. He also worked on central heating installation projects, from small scale residential/commercial jobs to a palatial 22 bedroom house in Perth, Scotland. During this time he gained recognition for his skill in fault diagnostics and heating control/programming expertise, as well as building a broad range of boiler maintenance experience, servicing and maintaining over 60 % of the boiler manufacturers’ contracts in Europe at the time.
Neil came to the South Island of New Zealand in 2004, swapping one cold island for another. He was surprised to find a lack of energy efficient integrated heating systems in NZ homes and see firsthand the cold and damp conditions that New Zealanders put up with every winter. Neil is on a mission to remedy this and as one of NZ’s most experienced central heating system ‘fault finders’ he travels around the country diagnosing and repairing faults, as well as advising on and installing complete central heating systems in both residential and commercial properties. Some of the larger projects Neil has worked on have included the University of Otago and a number of other large schools & colleges.
Neil’s story doesn’t stop there – he is constantly training and upskilling to ensure he continues to lead the industry in NZ. He has recently travelled to the US to complete advanced training in the Omniheat systems and he is now the accredited installer for this manufacturer. Neil wants to see New Zealanders in warm, dry and healthy homes, contacting him for a chat is the start!
“Every day in New Zealand I see people spending more than they need on heating and still putting up with a cold and damp house. If you have ever considered central heating for your home or business then give me a call first. I can advise on exactly the right system for you”
